User Feedback:

We at effectivewriter.com (in Victoria, BC, Canada) have been using www.bill4me.com located in Toronto, since we opened for business on April 1, 2000. They are a relative newcomer, a subsidiary (?) of Facilitate I.T. Inc., if you know of them. Although they currently provide limited card choices compared to many American services, the issues that led to our decision were centered on reputability--in this case satisfied by their close association with a Canadian bank, and our comfort in dealing with a Canadian company. A small startup cannot afford any problems in revenue handling--even the smallest can be disastrous. We have been quite satisfied with the superb and friendly startup assistance and support, the on-line merchant interface, the transparency to the user, and the prompt (next day) deposits. To give you a snapshot of our process: We wanted to ask our customers for pre-authorizations on their credit cards, in order to encourage them and give us some security. Then we start the customer's job. When we send the "order" out, we simply go to the Bill4Me site and "click" to change the pre-authorization to a "capture". I will finish up by saying that we would bet, based on our own experience, that the transaction processing infrastructure for e-business is one of the most complex issues facing a (small) startup. -- Launie Gratto  effectivewriter.com
