101 Successful Businesses You Can Start on the Internet
by Daniel S. Janal
John Wiley & Sons, Second Edition, softcover (Dec 1997)
I wish I had a nickel for the number of times I've been asked, "What do you think I should sell on the Internet to make money?" Dan Janal, author of the Online Marketing Handbook, wrote this book to answer that question. The first chapter explores the 17 reasons why you should consider selling something on the Internet, along with six reality-check challenges to running an Internet store. After a brief introduction to the Internet as a whole, he describes the unique practices that characterize Internet businesses.
Janal's "30 Killer Business Models" is probably the core of the book, discussing in turn the primary ways people have adapted businesses to the Web. The remainder of the book consists of profiles of successful businesses, categorized by type, with responses from the people who began these businesses. If you still haven't determined what kind of business you want to start on the Web, you'll find this book a good survey.
